GOOGLE ARTS & CULTURE AND RWANDA CULTURAL HERITAGE ACADEMY UNVEIL RWANDAN HERITAGE ONLINE AT GOOGLE ARTS AND CULTURE PLATFORM

On 17th May 2024 Google Arts and Culture and Rwanda Cultural Heritage Academy (Inteko y’Umuco) launched "Rwandan heritage online," an exhibition celebrating the rich tapestry of both natural and cultural heritage around the country as well as history.

The presence of Rwanda's heritage collection on the Google Arts & Culture's platform is expected to ensure the protection, conservation, research, dissemination, long-term storage and promotion of Rwandan Cultural Heritage, both tangible and intangible.

At the beginning Rwanda heritage showcased online is composed of 58 stories which help audiences to embark on a journey through time and space, exploring the diverse landscapes of Rwandan history, human creativity and natural heritage.

Through immersive virtual tours, high resolution images, texts and interactive multimedia content, visitors can engage with the stories and artworks in unprecedented ways. This platform provides an enriching and educational experience for audiences of all ages.

Madame Uwacu Julienne E.D of Itorero and Culture Promotion at MINUBUMWE who was the guest of honor, Highlighted the importance of this initiative as Rwandan culture is on of key drivers for its sustainable development. That is why Rwanda decided to make its culture the foundation to home-grown solutions in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.  

The use of Google arts and Culture platform will make Rwandan Heritage more accessible to a global audience, not only Rwandans living in the country or abroad but also tourists, professionals operating in education, tourism sectors. She added.

Ogbuefi Akunne Alex Uche Okosi, Director General of Google Africa, mentioned that Rwandan culture is a rich heritage that the whole world needs to know.

Rwandan will benefit from this partnership through tourism and investments in Rwandan cultural heritage sector he added.
